Pride of the Ilocanos
The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is a festival in the province of Ilocos Sur that is held every year to commemorate the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. The festival usually lasts from the last week of January and the first week of February. Through this festival, the province celebrates its abundant culture and traditions. This festival is also a way for the Ilocanos to thank God for the bountiful blessings and rich heritage of the province. During the festival, there are a lot of activities to do where you can enjoy and experience some of the Ilocano culture and traditions. There is usually a mass held at the St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral during the opening of the festival. A fireworks display also takes place in the municipality of Vigan every year to mark the start of the Kannawidan festival. Kannawidan is known to be Ilocos Sur’s biggest festival.
