Pride of the Ilocanos
The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is a festival in the province of Ilocos Sur that is held every year to commemorate the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. The festival usually lasts from the last week of January and the first week of February. Through this festival, the province celebrates its abundant culture and traditions. This festival is also a way for the Ilocanos to thank God for the bountiful blessings and rich heritage of the province.
Celebrating festivals has really become a big part of the Philippines tradition and now that we are bounded by the pandemic, it is sad to see how we can’t still celebrate some festivals like we used to before. The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is really significant especially to the Ilocanos because in this way we gather together and celebrate the foundation of our home province and share our tradition and culture with other people.
