Viva Vigan!

Celebrating Festivals has become a part of the Filipino culture. There are many festivals celebrated in the Philippines yearly. Even local and national tourists visit some places in the Philippines to experience different Filipino festivals. However, when the pandemic started, the fiestas are no longer as grand and large as they used to be. One of the most celebrated festivals is the Vigan City Fiesta held every January 25, in honor of the feast of St.Paul the Apostle, the patron saint of Vigan City.

Amidst the pandemic, the city government of Vigan is doing what they can do to continue to celebrate the Vigan City Festival while following the health protocols for the people’s safety. People around the country and the world, especially the Bigueños visit our hometown to celebrate the fiesta. The festival lasts for days and gathers a lot of tourists because of the different activities held like street dancing performances, carnivals, exhibits and many more. There are also food fairs, and competitions held where even participants in the neighboring provinces join. Since we are bounded by the pandemic last year, people must have really missed celebrating fiestas. Hopefully, this year, we can experience again the fun and excitement of celebrating the Vigan City Fiesta, even in the new normal.

We can still enjoy these occasions like festivals on our own or with our family, and having a positive mindset is the key. Let us be optimistic and hope that we can finally surpass this Covid-19 pandemic and we can eventually go back to normal and celebrate our Fiesta just as before.

  1. I agree, Trizza. Having an optimistic mindset is indeed the key to still enjoy and celebrate the real meaning behind this festivity even throughout this pandemic.
